Exclusive 2012 WCKG Voter Poll Released
A poll of 1200 randomly selected likely Illinois voters, conducted for WCKG AM 1530 between November 1-4, shows that President Obama leads his Republican rival Mitt Romney by more than fourteen points (54.3%-40.1%) heading into election day. Two third-party challengers received 3% of the vote, and 2.6% said they were still undecided. The margin of error for the poll is 2.83%.
The poll was conducted with live interviewers of voters who use both land lines and cell phones.
The WCKG poll, the radio station’s first ever, is the final poll to be published about the Presidential race in Illinois. “In the near future, we expect to become a major player in the news/talk radio format in Chicagoland,” station manager Matt Dubiel said today. “This poll is a harbinger of a bigger and better presence by the ‘Voice of DuPage County,”
While the President is running behind his 2008 vote total in Illinois(61.8%), he maintains a solid base of support in his hometown of Chicago and Cook County, among women voters, and with African-American and Hispanic voters. President Obama leads Governor Romney by a whopping 84.2%-11.3% in Chicago and by over twenty points in suburban Cook County(54.0%-41.9%), the poll said.
Governor Romney’s strongest showing geographically is in the vote-rich traditionally Republican collar counties, where he leads the President 52.1%-42.4%, according to the poll. Romney also leads Obama in central Illinois(51.4%-42.7%), and in southern Illinois(50.0%-44.7%), the poll showed.
