ComEd Outlines Steps to Lessen Outages in Elmhurst

ComEd representatives told Elmhurst City Council members it’s doing what it can to reduce power outages, but the company is suffering through a reduction in programs due to a state ruling on profits.
Scott Kish, manager of north region reliability for the utility, reported on engineering work last year that included making overhead lines more resistant to tree damage, automated switching gear aimed at limiting the number of homes affected by circuit problems, and speeding up repair response time.
The overhead line protection devices, called cable savers, and the so-called smart switches were deployed on five of the nearly 45 circuits serving Elmhurst.
