DuPage OK’s Funding for DuPage River Projects
“Both of the West Branch DuPage River projects will enhance our local community by improving our natural areas and reducing the potential for flooding,” said Stormwater Management Planning Committee Chairman Jim Zay. “A lot of residents and businesses will benefit from these improvements.”
The first project is partially underway in McDowell Grove Forest Preserve in Naperville using a $1.37 million grant from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. DuPage County Stormwater Management and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County are restoring a more than three-mile stretch of the river, streambank and surrounding natural areas.
This project also includes flood control improvements north of the forest preserve in Warrenville. The county will construct a flood protection berm along the east side of River Road with a multi-use path on top of it. Additional flood protection improvements will also be installed near Warrenville Road. This work is scheduled to begin by the end of the month.
