When it comes to discussing the best fielding shortstops of the last generation, there are really only two names: Ozzie Smith and Omar Vizquel. Vizquel was known for his ability to turn anything into a double play because his lightning quick transition from glove to hand was arguably the fastest ever, and he showed he still has some magic in his glove at 51-years-old during a recent demo for a crowd in his native Venezuela.
Vizquel made it appear that he caught a full speed throw with his bare hand by deflecting it off the heel of his glove faster than was detectable by the human eye. The David Blaine baseball track made one of the onlookers call Omar “El Diablo” a/k/a the devil for his dark sorcery.
After watching this you can see why he won 11 Gold Gloves.
