A trio of Downers Grove South High School track stars now share names with three puppies at a local rescue organization, according to a news release from the Magnificent Mutts Animal Rescue.
Seniors Michaela Hackbarth and Shaliyah Dixon-Tucker and junior Katie Stapleton all competed in the May 21 IHSA state finals at Eastern Illinois University, helping the school finish fifth in the meet.
When freshman track team member and animal rescue volunteer Allison Calek saw three recently rescued puppies needed names while volunteering with her family at the Hillside shelter, she suggested they share the names of her three teammates.
