Being GM is Jerry’s blindspot
Jerry Jones defended his role as GM of the Cowboys in a recent interview, and Colin thinks his refusal to relinquish final say in personnel decisions is a major problem for the franchise. Dallas is a $5 billion franchise, but it’s run like a small family business. In a traditional organizational structure, the GM has final say, but gets input and professional disagreement from other qualified football people to make informed decisions. No one is ever going to butt heads with Jerry because he’s also the owner. Instead, they become enablers out of self p[reservation. The Cowboys need a real GM with real power, from outside the organization.
