hile some participants in the Downers Grove Fourth of July parade will be giving away items, two Boy Scout troops actually will be taking them.
Members of Scout Troop 95 and Cub Scout Pack 86 will be trailed by wagons to be filled by those in attendance. The scouts will be collecting nonperishable goods for nonprofit Operation Care Package, which sends care packages to soldiers.
“The Boy Scout philosophy is to serve others,” Pack 86 Den Leader April Prescott said. “It actually started through the military, so we just thought it was the Fourth of July Parade, we’re celebrating the birth of America, and in order to do that let’s pay tribute to all the soldiers serving.”
The 100-plus scouts in the two troops will be approaching members of the gathered crowd for nonperishable items.
