A December trial date has been set for the former College of DuPage radio station employee charged with billing the station for more than $100,000 for parts and services that authorities say were not delivered.
At a status hearing Wednesday, DuPage County Judge Liam Brennan set a Dec. 6 trial date for John Valenta, of Wheaton. Brennan also set an interim October date to deal with any issues that may crop up before trial.
Valenta, 66, is facing a felony theft charge alleging that he billed WDCB-FM, the college-operated station, for work allegedly performed there through a private side business Valenta operated. The charge alleges that between 2006 and 2013, Valenta failed to deliver the materials or services for which he submitted invoices.
The station hired Valenta in 1978, and he was responsible for maintaining its equipment. He retired in 2014.
