After 21 seasons in the NBA, Dirk Nowitzki played in his final game at Staples Center in a 121-112 Monday night loss to the Clippers, but no one will remember the final score because of what happened in the final 10 seconds with the outcome already decided.
That’s when Doc Rivers grabbed the mic from the PA announcer as both teams were taking the floor out of a final timeout to recognize Dirk, and lead the L.A. crowd in a standing ovation send-off.
There’s something about seeing an opposing crowd pay genuine respect to a player that gives you goosebumps. What a moment, and what a move by Doc Rivers to make it happen.
What a beautiful moment in LA. Thanks Doc and @LAClippers! pic.twitter.com/gsYq923VSX
