TAMPA, Fla. — Jim Lewis, Democratic candidate for Attorney General of Florida, found himself in hot water with prospective voters from his own party this past weekend.
During an organized protest against Moms For Liberty, Lewis and his party were repeatedly insulted for their inability to codify abortion into law. When asked about his affiliation with the group, Lewis firmly responded, claiming it was not his.
“That’s not my group, but I am with them,” Lewis said to former U.S. Senate candidate Matt Dubiel.
Visibly uncomfortable, Lewis, pressed for a response to the protestors’ “Do-Nothing Democrats” chant, said that the party “should do more” and that he, personally, tries to not be a “Do-Nothing Democrat.”
The protestors, though, refused to hold back.
“They’re yelling at me right now, so I have to get going,” Lewis said.
Lewis is set to run against Aramis Ayala and Daniel Uhlfelder in the August 23rd Democratic Primary. The winner of the three-way race will take on incumbent Florida Attorney General Ashley B. Moody in the General Election this November.
