TAMPA, Fla. — Jim Lewis, Democratic Attorney General candidate for the state of Florida, is ready for a fight.
During a Moms For Liberty protest this past weekend, Lewis was asked about his willingness to work with current Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on policy-related issues.
Q: “So, really, Attorney General doesn’t do anything for policy. You’d just be the attorney for the Governor, right?”
A: “Not THIS Governor, I can assure you that. Hopefully, the next Governor.”
When pressed by former U.S. Senate candidate Matt Dubiel to explain, Lewis repeatedly denied the possibility of him being elected to serve under DeSantis.
He would later go on to acknowledge that DeSantis could win again, prompting an emphatic and divisive vow that would guide his strategy in office moving forward.
“We’ll have to fight. If it’s Ron DeSantis, we’ll have to fight.”
Lewis is set to run against Aramis Ayala and Daniel Uhlfelder in the August 23rd Democratic Primary. The winner of the three-way race will take on incumbent Florida Attorney General Ashley B. Moody in the General Election this November.
