Businesses and residents looking for a cheap drink after work will now get to enjoy happy hour alcohol specials after the Downers Grove Village Council loosened restrictions on the practice.
The board voted 6-1 during its Aug. 2 meeting to align its restrictions with what Gov. Bruce Rauner signed into law last July for the entire state. Commissioner William Waldack was the lone dissenting voice.
“A number of businesses have urged us to change our ordinance,” Mayor Martin Tully said.
The village and state previously outlawed all special daily alcoholic sales. As a home rule municipality, Downers Grove has the right to enact ordinances that are more restrictive than state law and currently prohibits special alcohol sales.
