As the Lakers sit on the verge of being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, it’s hard to call LeBron’s first year in L.A. anything other than a Class A dumpster fire. From an uncharacteristic groin injury that cost him a month, to the Anthony Davis trade negotiation fiasco, to bad chemistry with younger players, what was supposed to be the return of Showtime has never had any momentum or electricity.
At this time last year, when everyone was fixated on LeBron’s next move, Colin proposed that James should sit out the current season and then make his decision. People mocked him for it, but it doesn’t sound so crazy now.
He argued it would give him time to recharge his batteries and see what would be the best fit. It also would have given LeBron time to schmooze and recruit players to join him without having to be bothered with the NBA tampering rules.
As a tired LeBron sits on the verge of missing the playoffs for the first time since his early 20’s, and adding another superstar looking like anything but a certainty for the Lakers, Colin’s plan doesn’t sound so bad now.
