Bitcoin is something very few people seem to really understand, is nauseatingly volatile, and until it’s explosion several year’s ago, relatively worthless. When crypto currency did skyrocket over 9,000% in 2011, it instantly minted 1,000’s of millionaires overnight. That newly filthy rich group does not include Laszlo Hanyecz. Also known as, “Bitcoin pizza guy.”
Hananycez, a Florida computer programmer, was an early adopter of Bitcoin in 2010, and had tons of it when the value was around a penny per coin. Today, one bitcoin is valued at roughly $8,000. Hanacyz sat down with Anderson Coioper to explain how he blew through nearly a billion dollars in today’s Bitcoin by buying common household stfuff, and tons of pizza. He recalled spend 10,000 units on two Papa John’s pies. That’s the equivalent of over $800 million going by today’s value. Hopefully he got an extra garlic dipping sauce.
There’s no more excruciating tale than that of the almost rich. This one sure stings.
