Mascot races during the 7th inning stretch have become a thing over the last decade in Major League Baseball, and the Padres have taken the concept to another level this season, courtesy of Ron Burgundy and his sidekicks from the Channel 4 news crew.
Over the weekend, over-sized caricature versions of Ron, Brick, Champ and Brian Fantana, made their Petco Park debuts with a glorious sprint around the warning track like they were running from the angry mob after Burgundy told San Diego to go f—- itself.
Burgundy won the race because he’s kind of a big deal. This is 10 times cooler than watching dead presidents or different types of sausage run around.
Love the @Padres new “Anchorman Race”. Good addition to the ballpark fun! #WHAMMY pic.twitter.com/wC6Dmb57xG
