TAMPA, Fla. — Pro-abortion, pro-BLM protestors in Tampa, Florida this past weekend turned on their own party,
Activists protesting a Moms For Liberty event chided Democratic leadership by repeatedly chanting, “Do-Nothing Democrats” in response to the party’s inability to codify Roe v. Wade into law.
Jim Lewis, Democratic candidate for Attorney General of Florida, was also at the protest, and dealt with similar insults from prospective voters.
“They’re yelling at me right now,” Lewis said. “They’re yelling at the Democrats, in general, too, and I understand the frustration.”
When asked about what he would change regarding abortion, should he win the Election, Lewis echoed quite moderate viewpoints, compared to his party’s standard.
“We need to make sure the people have equal access,” Lewis said. “People should be able to get it [an abortion] up to a certain status, like 20 weeks. They should be able to get it [an abortion] before 20 weeks. There are a lot of us who are reasonable.”
Lewis’s stance did not please the Democratic protestors at the event, though. He is set to run against Aramis Ayala and Daniel Uhlfelder in the August 23rd Democratic Primary. The winner of the three-way race will take on incumbent Florida Attorney General Ashley B. Moody in the General Election this November.
