In October, Gourav Mukhi was being heralded as a 16-year-old Indian soccer prodigy who was the youngest player to ever score a goal in the Indian pro soccer league. It turns out the reason he was so advanced for his age is because he’s really a 28-year-old dude.
Mukhi’s tale had been told as a feel good story of a young kid making his way out of the slums to become a star for his hometown team of Jamshedpur FC, but that all came crashing down when a local paper revealed his actual age. He’s now been suspended six months by the Indian soccer federation, and his future with the team is unclear.
The scandal is understandable, but who actually thought this guy was 16? He looks like he’s 40. Even if he is older, he can obviously play, but his days as a “youth prodigy” are a thing of the past.
Here he is talking about scoring goals back when everyone thought he was a teenager.
