Former Bountygate villain Gregg Williams was promoted from defensive coordinator to Browns interim head coach after Jimmy Haslem decided to axe Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley for not playing nice in the sandbox together. He addressed the media for the first time yesterday.
Williams went through the basic coach talking points, but also made an eye-opening statement when asked about his future as a head coach. Williams astonishingly claimed that since his last head coaching gig in Buffalo (where he won 17 games in three years and never had a winning record) he’s had four NFL head coaching positions offered to him, free and clear, without even an interview, but he passed (?) in favor of taking coordinator positions (?). Ok, Gregg. Cool story bro.
This is the NFL coaching equivalent of a high school kid claiming he totally has a hot girlfriend that lives in Canada, but no one can see her. It’s even more unreal since Williams was basically rat poison in coaching circles after Bountygate.
Watch Williams tell this tale. Wowza.
