While Gregg Williams attempts to fill the not very big shoes of Hue Jackson as Browns interim head coach, Freddie Kitchens will be Todd Haley’s replacement as offensive coordinator. Kitchens was previously an assistant with Bruce Arians and was actually the Bama QB in 1997. Today he held his first press conference and used the opportunity to crack a joke at Williams’ hard to believe claim that he’s had four NFL head coaching offers without even having to interview.
While wrapping up the introductory Q & A, Kitchens – who sounds like Brett Favre – clarified to the gathered media that he has never had any NFL head coaching offers. Maybe it’s not the best idea to take a shot at your boss in your first media appearance, but we kind of like this guy.
He was also asked what he learned from Bruce Arians during his time as a Cardinals assistant. Kitchens said he learned how to mix a cocktail.
