Many have complained that football is turning into flag football because players can’t lay the wood on a receiver or quarterback without getting flagged or ejected. Whether you agree or disagree that the game is worse off now than before new rules were put in place, there’s no arguing that it’s changed drastically.
Nothing illustrates this point better than a viral video featuring a collection of bonecrushing hits on defenseless receivers, helmet to helmet shots, and concussions that has amassed 8 million views on Twitter.
Hitting hasn’t been taken out of football completely, but this video looks like a totally different game. There’s really no need for clarification here. Pretty much is every single hit would be a 15-yard flag today. Watching this after watching a 2018 game is like listening to death metal after a steady diet of Mozart.
