Tex Winter passed away at the age of 96 yesterday, and he’ll forever be remembered as the innovator of the triangle offense that led to 11 NBA titles during his time as an assistant to Phil Jackson with the Bulls and Lakers.
Winter didn’t just come up with the triangle in the 90’s he actually was using it dating back to his time as the Kansas State Head Coach during the 50’s and 60’s. To remember winter, K-State posted a video of Winter diagramming the triangle in a 1950’s newsreel-style instructional video.
RIP to a legend that changed the game. Watch Tex run you through how the triangle works, before Michael Jordan or Kobe were a glimmer in their father’s eyes.
