Steve Smith and Michael Irvin’s relationship as NFL Network collegaues got off to a rocky start last year when Irvin made fun of Smith’s plaid pants during a broadcast. Smith seemed genuinely pissed off and appeared ready to hunt down Irvin at his remote broadcast location and throw down.
Before last night’s Thursday Night Football matchup, the pair were at it again. Irvin commented that Joe Flacco finally had a receiver he could trust in newly acquired Michael Crabtree, for the time since Anquan Boldin was catching passes from him in 2012. Smith, who played receiver for Baltimore from 2014-2016, wasn’t happy about being snubbed by Irvin and fired back. Smith said he had “a doctorate in route running,” and that Irvin only had an “associates degree from a community college.”
With most broadcasters, this would be considered lighthearted ribbing, but Steve Smith doesn’t appear to be joking around, ever. Ice up. This is great TV.
The full clip is WILD.
