The Wheaton City Council on July 5 voted to direct staff to negotiate a potential refuse contract with Lakeshore Recycling Systems, which uses radio frequency identification tags on every garbage and recycling cart. Wheaton residents currently receive curbside garbage, yard waste and recycling pickup service through Advanced Disposal Services.
The contract with Advanced Disposal – previously Veolia Environmental Services – ends Sept. 30. The City Council is set to vote on a contract with Lakeshore at its July 18 meeting, and the five-year contract would begin Oct. 1.
